Prof. A.O. Ogunniyi (Editor-in-Chief):

Professor Adesola Ogunniyi, the Editor-in-Chief of AJMMS is Professor of Medicine at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and holds Consultant Neurologist position at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College in Internal Medicine (1985), West African College of Physicians (1991), Royal Colleges of Physicians of Edinburgh (2004) and London (2007). He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science (2019). He is the Chairman of the College Research and Innovation Management Unit that coordinates research in the College of Medicine. He currently reviews articles for many journals. He is well published in the areas of neurodegenerative diseases, epilepsy and stroke. He received his undergraduate medical education at the University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and had residency training at the University College Hospital, Ibadan (1980 – 85) specializing in neurology. He underwent neuroepidemiology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA (1986-87).

Prof. O.M. Oluwatosin (Asst. Editor-in-Chief)

Professor Odunayo M. Oluwatosin, an Associate Editor of AJMMS is a Professor of Surgery at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan which holds the MBBS Degree of University of Ibadan, Nigeria, Cert. RCS (Plastic Surgery) of Royal College of Surgeons, England, F.M.C.S and F.W.A.C.S of University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria.  As a surgeon in the specialty of Plastic Surgery, he have been involved in the training of several postgraduates fellows most of who are now professors/lecturers in other Universities in Nigeria.  Similarly, he have involved in pioneering the postgraduate course in medical education which is the first distant learning Master’s course in University of Ibadan.

His research focus is in burns, reconstructive surgery and management of complications of wounds. He was an Editor of the Nigerian Journal of Plastic Surgery for ten (10) years and has several publications in standard journals and books as well as grants support due to his tenacity on research.  He was the Vice President, Nigerian Burn Association (2003-2005),  a foundation member and Chairman steering Committee of Pan African Association of Cleft Lip and Palate (2006-2007) and Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo City (2017-2019) to mention few.

 

Prof Y Raji (Asst. Editor-in-Chief)

Professor Yinusa Raji Reproduction and Developmental Programming Unit, Department of Physiology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria holds B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Sc. and PhD degrees in Physiology of the University Ibadan and a Fellowship in International Medical Education and Research from FAIMER Institute Philadelphia United States of America.  He was promoted Professor in 2010 and delivered the 444th University Inaugural Lecture titled “Benevolence or Malevolence: The Curious Wonder of Natural Agents on Reproductive Physiology”, on 20th September, 2018.

His major area of research is Reproductive Physiology and Developmental Programming. The molecular mechanism of action of antimicrobials and medicinal plant extracts with antimicrobial properties as well as environmental pollutants on reproductive functions are being investigated with appropriate interventions, also, the developmental programming effects of the substances were also investigated in these studies,. Professor Raji has over one hundred publications in peer review journals. He also has considerable expertise and interest in Medical Education with emphasis on Lecturing Skills, Curriculum Development, Assessments, Programme and Institutional Evaluation. He is a member of several professional societies including, Physiological Society of Nigeria (PSN), African Association of Physiological Society (AAPS), International Society for Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD), Physiological Society UK and Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R) USA.

Professor Raji is an Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the African Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences and current Head of Department of Physiology, University of Ibadan. He serves as external examiner (undergraduate and postgraduate programmes) to many universities within and outside Nigeria. He is also a resource person to National Universities Commission (NUC) on resource verification and accreditation exercise for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Prof. Edith O. Ajaiyeoba (Associate Editor)

Edith Oriabure Ajaiyeoba, a professor in the department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan, is a 4-time acting head of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Director as well as Deputy Director in several research institutes and centres. She has trained over 500 B.Pharm Degree students, 25 M.Sc. students, 6 PhD students and mentored over 3 postdoctoral scholars.  Her persistence on research had led to several fellowships and grants as well as publishing of 95 referred publications in standard journals and books.  Professor Ajaiyeoba is currently the Director, Office of International Programmes (OIP), University of Ibadan and a member of many professional bodies and editorial board across the globe

 

Prof. F.A. Fehintola (Associate Editor)

Fatai A. FEHINTOLA holds the MBBS and MSc Degrees of University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and he is a Fellow of National Postgraduate Medical College in Physic (FMCP).  He was promoted Professor of Pharmacology & Therapeutics in October 2011 at the University of Ibadan where he has been lecturing for about two decades to date.  He delivered Professorial Inaugural Lecture titled: “Good for Goose; Grave for Gander: Selective Toxicity in the Service of Man” on 23 March 2017.  He visited the Chinese Centre for Disease Control, Shanghai, China for short training program in Malaria (September-November 2002), and the State University of New York at Buffalo (March-May 2009) for short term training in HIV Pharmacology. Professor Fehintola has served as Consultant to the WHO and MAPS-USAID at various times. He was on the Technical Expert Group of the UNODC-FGN-sponsored/organized curriculum review for medical pharmacy and nursing students.  He has served/still serving on the various committees within the University of Ibadan, and as Chairman of the subspecialty of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics in the Faculty of Internal Medicine, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.   He has scores of scholarly publications in local and international peer review journals including co-authoring an invited editorial commentary on Malaria and HIV/AIDS interaction in Ugandan Children in the Journal of Clinical Infectious Disease, Vol. 63 (3).

Prof. Oluwatoyin. A. Odeku, FAS (Associate Editor)

Oluwatoyin Odeku is a Professor of Pharmaceutics and the Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan. She obtained the degrees of B. Pharm. from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, M.Sc. and PhD from University of Ibadan, Ibadan, She is an accomplished educator and researcher with interest in the development of indigenous materials as pharmaceutical excipients. She has expertise in drug  formulation and pharmaceutical technology has led to several fellowships and collaborative research grants which has yielded some novel materials as pharmaceutical excipients and formulations of indigenous plant materials into conventional dosage forms. In the field of nanotechnology, she has demonstrated the usefulness of indigenous starches, polymeric materials, oils and fats as delivery systems for nanoparticulate systems. She is a member of many national and international professional bodies across the globe and has served on the committees of professional organisations. She is a registered Pharmacist and a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria. She is a Fellow of the West African Research Association and Nigerian Academy of Science.

 

PROFESSOR KAYODE O. OSUNGBADE, (Associate Editor)

Kayode O. Osungbade is a Professor and Head of the Department of Health Policy and Management, Faculty of Public Health, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. He is also a Honourary Consultant Public Health Physician to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria. He holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Bioethics of the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (Public Health and Community Medicine) and a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians (Community Health). Prof. Osungbade underwent a WHO/TDR Career Development Training Fellowship on Management of Public Health Training at the WHO Mediterranean Centre for Vulnerability Reduction, Tunis, Tunisia  from 2003 – 2004; he functioned as the Centre’s Training Officer till 2005. He has about 20 years of teaching, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, primary health care and health services management. His research interests include health services research, quality of health services and health services strengthening; he has published extensively in national and international journals. He has served as an external examiner at both undergraduate and postgraduate examinations in some Nigerian universities. He has over 20 years of professional experience in public health sector providing support for health systems and disease control programmes at local, state and national levels (immunisation, onchocerciaisis, HIV/AIDS, primary health care, food hygiene and safety, adolescent, maternal, child and newborn health, etc). He also has over 20 years of professional experience in providing consultancy and technical support for national and international development partners such as IFESH/UNIVA, WHO/TDR/UNICEF, Terre des homes, Nigerian Academy of Science, Marie Stopes International Organisation of Nigeria (MSION), etc on trainings, needs assessment and development of strategic plans and training manuals. He is currently a Consultant to the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and Member of Technical Committee on HIV and AIDS control among the general population and most-at-risk populations in Nigeria. He is a Consultant and Technical Facilitator for Trainings on Integrated Programme Management and Supportive Supervision for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Services in Nigeria of the Federal Ministry of Health. He served as a short-term Consultant to FMoH/MSION on Development of National Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) Training Manual for Community Health Extension Workers in Nigeria.

 

PROFESSOR A.F. ADENIYI (Associate Editor)

Professor Fatai Adeniyi is a Professor of Physiotherapy and Specialist Adviser at the University of Ibadan and University College Hospital, Ibadan respectively. He holds the degrees of B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. of University of Ibadan, Ibadan as well as fellow of FNPC, RMRTB (Nig.) and  RHCPC (UK). He is an accomplished educator and researcher with research and practice interests in physical activity and health promotion as applicable to the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases especially diabetes mellitus. In the field of diabetes, he has led and been part of several collaborative researches that have provided better understanding of physical activity among the population, the factors associated with being physically active and inactive, and the utilization of diverse forms of physical activity for health promotion. His research collaboration also provided more insights into how modifiable factors are linked to diabetes complications.  He is a director and member of many national and international professional bodies across the globe and has served on the committees of some of these bodies.

DR. J.A. OLANIYI (Associate Editor)

Dr. J.A. Olaniyi obtained his MB.Ch.B from OAU, Ife; M.Sc. (Chem Path), Cert Immunology from University of Ibadan and fellow of the West African College of Physicians (LAB. MED.) as well as FUICC.  He is a Reader in the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, also, a Consultant Haematologist to University College Hospital. He has just completed his administrative responsibility as Head of Department of Haematology.  He is a member of several professional bodies including Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria,West African College of Physician, Nigerian Society for Haematology and Blood Transfusion, African Society for Blood Transfusion, American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society for Haematology (ASH). His research has included predominantly Haemoglobinopathies and Haemato-Oncology. He currently serves as Editorial member of several reputed Journals like International Journal of Applied and Basic Medical Research and an expert reviewer for Journals like African Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Nigerian Journal of Postgraduate Medicine, Annals of Ibadan Postgraduate Medicine, Medjaden Biomedical Services, Hong Kong, China, Ethics Committee of University of Ibadan/University College Hospital, Ibadan., African Journal of Biomedical Research , International Journal of Applied and Basic Medical Research, Annals of African Medicine. He has authored over 70 research articles and books.

 

DR. B. A. OLUSANYA (Associate Editor)

Dr. Olusanya is a Reader in the Department of Ophthalmology, College of Medicine University of Ibadan. He also works as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He teaches undergraduate medical students during their clinical postings in Ophthalmology. He also teaches postgraduate students who have enrolled for Master of Science degree in Ophthalmology as well as resident doctors undergoing postgraduate fellowship training in Ophthalmology.  He obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria as well as a Master’s degree in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics. He is a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. He underwent a one-year subspecialty fellowship training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at the Red Cross War Memorial Childrens’ Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa. Dr. Olusanya is currently the Director of Research of the Nigerian Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Society (NIPOSS). He is a member of the International Strabismological Association. He is also an international member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  He has a keen interest in clinical and community-based research in ophthalmology. Specifically, his research interests lie in the areas of childhood blindness and eye diseases in children as well as epidemiology and management of strabismus.  He has a passion for research that generates and disseminates knowledge necessary for evidence based medical practice. He is also interested in the effective translation of research findings into policies that impact positively on the society at large.

 

DR. AKINYELE O. ADISA (Associate Editor)

Dr. Akinyele O. Adisa, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Oral Pathology, Faculty of Dentistry, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and Honorary Consultant to the University College Hospital, Ibadan holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from university of Ibadan and Fellow of MCDS.  He is an Associate Research Fellow, Frankfurt Orofacial Regenerative Medicine (FORM) Laboratory, Frankfurt, Germany and teaches undergraduate dental students.  He has several publications on reputable journals and goggle scholar.

 

DR. TAIWO A. LAWAL (Associate Editor)

Dr. Taiwo A. Lawal, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) as well as M.Sc. (Epid & Med Stat) from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria.  He also has a Doctorate in Medicine from the Medizinische Hochschule Hannover and is a Fellow of both the West African College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons as well as FICS.  Dr. Lawal is an Honorary Consultant Paediatric Surgeon to the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He served as the Sub-Dean (Undergraduate) MBBS in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences between 2014 and 2018 and works in the Curriculum Subunit of the College of Medicine Education Unit. His passion is in epidemiology and surgical care of birth defects and medical education and he is a reviewer to several regional and international journals.    

 

DR. YEMI R. RAJI (Associate Editor)

Dr. Yemi R. Raji is a Honorary Consultant Physician and Nephrologist in the University College Hospital, Ibadan and a lecturer in the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.  He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Chirogy (MB,ChB) from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria and Master’s of Science in Human Genetics at University of Michigan in the United State.  He is a fellow of National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and MWACP (West Africa), a recipient of several awards and prizes and a member of several professional bodies.  His research focus is on the genetics of kidneys and its cardiovascular sequalae. 

 

DR OLUFUNMILOLA BAMIDELE MAKANJUOLA (Associate Editor)

Dr Olufunmilola Makanjuola is a Lecturer in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, University of Ibadan and a Consultant Clinical Microbiologist, University College Hospital Ibadan. She graduated from the University of Ibadan with the degrees of MBBS and Master of Science in Epidemiology. Dr Makanjuola was awarded Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCPath) and obtained a Diploma in Medical Mycology from the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France. She was a recipient of a Wellcome Trust Award for a course on Molecular Approaches to Clinical Microbiology in Africa and also completed University of Washington courses on Clinical Management of HIV and Leadership and Management in Health.  Dr. Makanjuola has studied and published articles on epidemiology of infectious diseases, fungal infections, and antimicrobial resistance and her recent research interests include fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes and invasive fungal infections. She is a member of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), International Society for Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM), Society for General Microbiology (SGM), College of Nigerian Pathologists (CNP) and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).

 

DR. TIMOTHY A.O. OLUWASOLA

Dr Timothy A.O. Oluwasola of the gynaecologic oncology unit, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Ibadan holds the degrees of MBBS and M.Sc. (Epid/Biostat.) from University of Ibadan, Ibadan, M.Sc.(Clin. Investigation) from Northwestern University, Chicago and also a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. He is actively involved in managing gynaecologic cancer patients, in community-based advocacy for uptake of cervical cancer screening and have contributed to production of a standardized gynaecologic cancers management manual peculiar to our environment. Currently, his research focus on practical identification of challenges of cancer care in our environment as well as factors affecting early detection of gynaecologic cancers with the hope of providing models that will help in eliminating some of these factors.

 

DR ADEGBUYI OLADELE ADERIBIGBE (Associate Editor)

Dr. Aderibigbe is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. He holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in Pharmacology of University of Lagos and also obtained Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacology from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.  Currently, he teaches Medical and Pharmacy students Pharmacology and also involved in teaching and supervising Masters and PhD students. His research interest is on the neuropharmacological properties of local medicinal plants used in the treatment of mental disorder in Nigeria.
